My Wedding Journey : 364 Days to Go! • Missouri Wedding Photographer

As the saying goes, “best laid plans”, sums up the last few weeks of my wedding planning journey! After a few hiccups, we have a new wedding date, city, AND venue and it’s even better than the last one!

OK, let’s back up a few weeks to that daunting night when I felt the weight of wedding planning pulling me down to a very stressed out moment. Not only were costs of all my favorite vendors piling up, but the venue alone almost doubled our budget (ya, yikes!). I’m guessing every bride goes through this at one point or another, on some scale… so I took a step back, had a wedding reality check and started from scratch. Well almost. There was no way my awesome photographer Matt Miller was going anywhere, photos are obviously a high priority 😉

The huge sigh of relief came when we found our (new) venue!  Welcome to the Postcard Inn, a boutique hotel built in 1957 and stuck in that awesome age of the Beach Boys, surfing, and everything that made the 60s as awesome as it was! Now Matt and I are by no means having a “vintage” wedding, we simply wanted a venue with character, something that just had “us” written all over it. And that’s exactly how the Postcard Inn makes us feel.

So here are a few tips when searching for your perfect destination wedding venue :

1. Have your wedding in the middle of the week! Not only does this make it easier for guests to make a vacation out of your wedding, but you can save big time on your budget!

2. Find a destination that’s right for you. We know we could have had our wedding closer to home, but St. Petersburg is one of Matt’s favorite beach towns in Florida and I just personally love the atmosphere of Florida as my family has been vacationing there for years. Every location you pick is going to cause a hiccup for someone’s plans, just remember that it’s your wedding day, so choose a location you love!

3. Breath. Wedding planning is a huge endeavor, especially when planning a destination wedding. If you aren’t working with a planner, find one. I have been in the wedding business for 8 years so I’m only bringing on a day of coordinator. But if I didn’t have the knowledge of almost a decade of being in the thick of weddings, I’d absolutely need that help!

We’ll be visiting the venue more this coming Fall, so I’ll be sure to take photos and post away here on the blog with a big ol’ update! Here’s to not only planning the wedding of your dreams, but understanding how to work through the little hiccups that happen along the way. After all, as long as we get to marry that special someone, well then everything will be just fine.
